Dermal Fillers
Dermal fillers can be used to fill out wrinkles and deep lines that develop with time to help restore a fuller and more youthful complexion. They can also be used to help to correct or enhance the form of certain facial features such as the chin, jaw and lips.
Products used
Several filler brands, filler densities and delivery techniques (needle vs. cannula) are used depending on the treatment area and desired result; every treatment is tailored to you as your face is your personalised canvas. All products used by The Courtyard Clinic are in line with current UK safety standards.
Holistic approach
At The Courtyard Clinic we believe in holistic care. Every facial treatment starts with a consultation. Consultations are free of charge and allow the practitioner to assess your specific requirements and tailor a treatment plan which is best suited to you.
What are dermal fillers made from?
Dermal fillers are a gel like substance that is placed beneath the skin. They contain hyaluronic acid (HA) which is found naturally in your own skin. Fillers contain a modified form of this chemical that helps to hydrate and plump out the skin/lips.
All dermal fillers used do resorb over time and if necessary, can be dissolved.
HA filler also contains a local anaesthetic that numbs the area to aid treatment. Topical numbing creams or numbing injections can also be used where indicated.
As HA is a natural substance of the skin, it is naturally broken down, meaning all forms of HA fillers are temporary requiring a future top-up.
To note fillers are different to anti-wrinkle injections (botulinum toxin) that we use. Fillers do not cause softening of muscle movements like toxin does. The filler mechanism is to physically add volume to the skin instead.
How long does filler last?
Depending on the brand of dermal filler, they can last between 6 months and two years. Even longer is possible with a touch-up and maintenance in between.
When can you start filler treatment?
Dermal filler treatment is ideal for patients in their 20s and 30s who want to treat the first signs of ageing without creating drastic changes. By targeting key anti-ageing zones in the face, we’re able to prevent these signs of ageing from developing, allowing for age prevention over time.
However, that said, having treatment later in life to turn back the clock is also possible. As we lose laxity and volume to the skin and our skull structure underneath resorbs we can cleverly place filler to rebuild deficient areas.

Treatment Goals
One of the most important considerations is that we like to keep it natural. We always advise it’s easier to add more filler vs take product away. We like to cleverly layer our products to build a beautiful structure to your face that is tasteful, age appropriate and meets your treatment goals.
Whether you would like a full-face approach or just work on specific areas the first step is to always come into the clinic for a face analysis.

Improved chin projection
Chin Filler is a very popular treatment used to help enhance a weak chin, or to smooth out irregularities, such as dimpling, through increasing volume to the area.
Also known as a non-surgical chin augmentation, chin fillers have grown in popularity in recent years. We can reshape and remodel the chin, leaving you feeling more confident with your enhanced facial profile and definition. A retracted chin or deficient chin can lead to a very imbalanced profile so restoring this will create facial harmony between the lower third, mid third, and upper third of your face. Balance between these three areas is key in facial aesthetic planning.

Defines the jaw line and angle for the jaw
Jawline line filler is a technique to add strength and volume to a weaker appearing jaw line.
By adding of dermal fillers we can effectively sculpt and reshape the jaw. In some people the problem is not just that the jawline appears weak, but may also be unbalanced. We can use filler to enhance and even out the facial structure bringing a more aesthetically pleasing appearance, such as a stronger, tighter and uplifted jawline.

We will always try and keep results natural and plan your new lips carefully. There are many techniques we can use and different tricks to build volume for different shaped lips. We will discuss what is correct for you. Sometimes lips need to be built up over several appointments if there is high risk of filler migration and we will let you know if you fall into this category of client.

Plump out sunken nose to mouth lines
Nasolabial folds are the lines which run from the side of your nose to your mouth.
As we age, we will almost all notice the appearance of sunken in nasolabial lines, but thankfully through tactful use of dermal fillers we are able to plump the skin around this area to help reduce this indicator of ageing.
By adding volume and plumping out either the fold itself, or the area below the fold to lift the skin, we can smooth out the concavity and restore lost volume, leaving you looking refreshed.

Reduce under eye hollowing
Eyes look more awake
The ‘tear trough’ refers to the area immediately below the eye, which can appear dark and hollow, giving a tired appearance even if you are well-rested.
HA filler can be placed in the under-eye and surrounding areas to plump out hollowness, creating a more youthful and fresher appearance. Again, we never wish to over fill these areas so several courses of treatment may be required to get this treatment exactly how you wish and fully refreshed.

Reduced temple hollowing and wrinkles around the eyes
Temple fillers can dramatically improve the appearance of aging around the eyes and temple region.
When filler is placed by target, small injections, this can remove and lift the fine lines around the eye. This will also successfully treat temple hollowing and give the midface a mini face lift.

Reduce vertical lines around the mouth
Improved skin quality around the mouth and uplift corners of the mouth
Marionette lines: These are the lines that run from the corner of the mouth, giving an ‘upside-down smile’.
Smoker’s Lines: also known as barcode lines, these are the vertical lines running around the lips.
Because the mouth is such a highly active region of the face, deep lines form quickly here. By placing fillers into smoker’s lines and marionette lines we can lift the skin, making furrows appear less deep and the corners of the mouth more lifted.
To note perio-oral lines treated with filler can also be treated with toxin for optimal results. Come in for a consultation and we can see what’s best for you to create the most rejuvenated look.
