Smoothing of wrinkles
Softening of muscles

It’s a part of nature that as we age, we develop lines, wrinkles, and creases in our skin. Whist this change happens all over our body, the effects are most visible on those areas which are exposed, including the face, neck, décolletage, and hands. This is happening because we lose the elastic qualities in our skin due to hyaluronic acid and collagen loss, especially around the areas where there are repetitive muscle movements.

The skin ageing process is also exacerbated by several factors such as sun damage and loss of hydration. As well as this, other elements such as stress, diet, strenuous exercise, weight loss and even our genetics all play a part in how quickly our skin ages.

The good news is anti-wrinkle treatment is now more comfortable, affordable, and convenient than ever before to turn back the clock and slow down the rate of aging in the future. Anti-wrinkle injections are administered in tiny quantities with a very fine needle, injections are highly targeted giving minimal effect on other areas of the face, just to those targeted. You do not require any recovery time and treatment can even be completed in a lunch hour.

How anti-wrinkle injections work:

By relaxing targeted muscles with wrinkle relaxing medication, we can reduce the severity of lines. We work on your muscles in motion, by cleverly altering their strength. We stress the importance of seeing a medical professionally for this, as we fully understand head and neck anatomy.

At The Courtyard Clinic we strive for a natural appearance. Ensuring a degree of movement is maintained to avoid a frozen or startled appearance. However, if you prefer this look do talk to us about your wishes and we will accommodate you.

Areas To Treat

anti-wrinkle injections

The vast majority of adults will be suitable for treatment. The common areas to be treated are:

  • Frown Lines
  • Forehead lines
  • Crow’s feet lines around the eye
  • Neck lift
  • Jowls
  • Lip flip
  • Hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating)
  • Enlarged jaw muscles (masseter muscles) to slim the face

Facial expression lines explained:

By cleverly placing injections into the skin where you have deep furrows between the eyes, crow’s feet around the eyes and forehead lines we can dis-engage these areas to allow softening of these regions. We can also leave certain areas engaged, such as in the forehead, to encourage a slight lateral eyebrow lift whilst encouraging a central smoothing effect with injections just targeted here. Whatever ever you would like, please discuss with us, so we can reach your desired result.

How does the neck lift work?

When injected into the vertical bands of the neck, antiwrinkle injections can relax the dynamic muscles, making them less prominent, and resulting in a smoother, younger looking neck.

How can jowls be softened?

In some cases, antiwrinkle injections reduce sagging jowls by tightening and lifting the jaw area. This pulls back the excess sagging skin that creates jowls in the first place.

What does a lip flip do?

The primary effect of the lip flip is to relax the muscles (orbicularis oris) that connect to the upper lip, allowing the lip to relax and curl outward, thereby appearing larger and more defined in shape. Unlike lip filler, the lip flip will not add volume, but the lip flip can accentuate the results of your lip filler.

How can sweating be reduced?

Hyperhidrosis is the medical term for excessive sweating and is a common condition affecting both men and women and can cause sufferers a great deal of embarrassment.

Although antiwrinkle injections are typically used to smooth the skin, they have a well-established medical application for their ability to block the nerve’s signal to the skins sweat glands.

Face slimming injections:

Some people clench or grind their teeth so much that it causes their masseter muscles to enlarge, giving the face a wider silhouette. To help slim the face and take away some of the discomfort anti-wrinkle injections into the masseter muscles can help disengage this muscle partly to help weaken its over activity.

FAQ

anti-wrinkle injections

Although both classed as injectable treatments there is a big difference between anti-wrinkle injections and dermal fillers.

Anti-wrinkle injections work to relax the muscle that causes the wrinkles to appear whereas dermal fillers fill the treated area with hyaluronic acid which adds volume and reduces the appearance of lines, wrinkles, and sunken areas of the face.

Both treatments can be highly effective in reducing the appearance of lines and wrinkles and we suggest that you visit us for a free consultation where we will be able to help you decide which treatment is best for you.

A consultation is the best place to start when considering any type of treatment. An anti-wrinkle consultation at The Courtyard Clinic is a thorough discussion with one of our dentists or hygienists who will take the time to analyse your skin, go through your medical history and discuss your desired results. After your consultation you should feel confident and well informed about your treatment.

Anti-wrinkle injections are directed into the skin using an ultrafine needle after face mapping your injection shots. The skin will be fully sterilised and post-operative care advised thoroughly.

Results can be seen soon after treatment, most people start to see visible effects after three days, three weeks the maximum effects can be seen, and retreatment is advised every 3-6 months.

Although antiaging treatments are currently unregulated in the UK meaning that any aesthetic practitioner can perform them, here at The Courtyard Clinic you will only ever be treated by a fully trained and experienced registered medical professional.

We recommend that you avoid taking any anti-inflammatory painkillers such as ibuprofen or aspirin before having treatment. These medications can increase your risk of bruising, swelling and bleeding. If you are in discomfort after the procedure, you can take paracetamol, but you must again avoid anti-inflammatory painkillers for 2 days after treatment.

There are a few things that you can do to help ensure that your skin is ready for your treatment. This includes not drinking alcohol for 2-3 days prior to your appointment, this helps to lessen your risk of bleeding and bruising. It is also advised that you avoid ibuprofen and aspirin for 1 week prior to your appointment as these can all thin your blood making bruising more likely.

Bruising and swelling post treatment is always going to be a risk and where you can take steps to avoid these, you should always be aware that it could still occur if you are prone to bruising.

Please ensure you arrive to your appointment with a clean face and avoid makeup if possible.

After Botox, patients will typically experience some small raised red bumps for 30-60 minutes after treatment, with the potential for mild tenderness in the treated sight for a couple of days. Bruising as discussed above is also a risk.

Although the safety of treatment in pregnancy has not been established through rigorous scientific testing, at The Courtyard Clinic we do not perform any injectable treatments on patients who are pregnant or breast feeding.

After care:

You will usually be able to go about your day-to-day activities immediately following treatment.

However, to ensure optimal results it is important to keep the target muscles active for a few hours and to avoid extremes of heat or cold, vigorous exercise for 24 hours, and lying down or leaning over for 4-6 hours. Thorough advice will be given at the time of your appointment.
