1. Is cosmetic dentistry for you?

    28th August 2014 by thecourtyardclinic

img1.jpg   Here at The Courtyard Clinic our priority to provide our patients and their families with happy and healthy smiles. A number of our patients come to us to improve the appearance of their smiles, our expert dentists are all well trained in advanced cosmetic dentistry and so are more than happy to help. Here are the 5 main ways we help patients achieve bright, brilliant smiles:

    1) Tooth whitening: tooth whitening also known as dental bleaching is a simple and non invasive way of giving our patients a more youthful smile. It involves the placement of hydrogen peroxide gel either in the clinic or in thin plastic trays at home. Many of our patients go up to 7 shades lighter!

    2) Tooth straightening: Often patients will be unhappy with the position of a certain tooth or teeth. The best way to align the teeth is by use of adult orthodontics or braces. Traditional metal braces is still the gold standard of treatment however there are many other options which can be more cosmetic and much quicker than the traditional 2 years of treatment. Treatments such as Damon, Invisalign, Inman Aligner and Social 6 Lingual braces are all available for patients to get the smile they always wanted.

    3) Cosmetic bonding: Patients will sometimes be unhappy with existing visible fillings at the front of the mouth, or may want to correct small discrepancies in the shape of position of their teeth. Cosmetic bonding can be used to change the shape of teeth often without drilling away any of the natural tooth. This “no drills/no injection” technique is fantastic especially for our nervous patients!

    4) Replacing missing teeth: missing teeth can provide an unharmonious smile which many patients are embarrassed of. These spaces can not only be a cosmetic issue but also a functional one with the surrounding teeth drifting an affecting the bite.

    5) Porcelain veneers or crowns: if the teeth have multiple cosmetic issues i.e. problems with a combination of colour, position and shape then porcelain veneers or crowns can be used. Often a patient will have old crowns which they are unhappy with which can be replaced for more cosmetic materials. In specific cases porcelain veneers can be used to provide a beautiful smile- this is frequently used for the “Hollywood smile” appearance that many people desire. If you are unhappy with your smile then give us a call- many of our patients have been putting off improving their smile for many years,  all of our patients who have improved their smiles wish they did it earlier! Call 01932 582949 and book in for a complimentary smile consultation today!

  2. Unhappy with your smile? Have you thought about discreet adult orthodontics?

    Braces aren’t just for teenagers!

This is something that we find ourselves discussing with our patients quite frequently at The Courtyard Clinic. Patients come into our practice in Chertsey to talk about improving their smiles and we love helping them get their confidence back. Most patients think veneers or crowns are the only option, and occasionally they are, however in a lot of cases straightening and whitening the teeth is the best option for the lifespan of the teeth and also to get the best cosmetic result.

We have a lot of experience with adult orthodontics (braces) at The Courtyard Clinic and we offer many options:

    1) Damon braces-
The Damon System is not just a new product, it’s a whole new way of treating patients. Conventional treatment often requires removal of healthy teeth and/or the use of palatal expanders to make space. This approach is often uncomfortable, takes longer, and can leave a narrower arch and a flat profile. Damon smiles are full, natural 10-tooth smiles achieved with light biologically-sensible forces, and are specifically designed to improve the overall facial result of each patient

    2) Invisalign –
The Invisalign system is as close to invisible as possible with modern orthodontic systems. This very discreet system is removable and very comfortable to wear. Invisalign’s patented Clincheck 3D computerised system allows patients to see the projected finished result at the start of treatment. Invisaligns technology is evolving and we are now able to take on more complicated cases with this revolutionary system

    Invisalign

    3) Social 6 braces-
This system attaches to the backs of the teeth so that nothing is visible in the patients smile, it is perfect for minor corrections of crowded teeth and can be finished in under 16 weeks in most cases.

So if you are concerned about your smile and want to improve it in a minimally invasive and cosmetic manner then we have all the options for you at The Courtyard Clinic. To have a free consultation regarding adult braces – give us a call on 01932 582949.

  3. Dentistry 'Down under'!

    13th September 2010 by thecourtyardclinic

Dr. Yasmin George has just returned from a week’s stay in Sydney where she was the guest of Dr. Derek Mahony the owner of Australia’s largest private orthodontic practice and leading orthodontic educator worldwide.

Dentistry, in particular orthodontics (braces) is a  rapidly progressing field, and it was extremely stimulating and interesting to not only see a wide variety of cases but  to discuss latest techniques for adults and early treatment for children.

  4. 'State of the Art' Fixed Braces

    13th April 2010 by thecourtyardclinic

On Saturday 10 April, despite the lovely weather and the Grand National(!) Dr Yasmin George joined 50 experienced othodontists from all over UK and Europe  in London’s Hilton Hotel Paddington, and attended a seminar in Advanced Smile Design using the Insignia brace.

Insignia is a computerised system that combines digital treatment planning and ‘custom made’ fixed braces and wires to give the patient a faster, more comfortable, predictable treatment outcome with fixed braces.

Insignia is idea for children and adults who want straight teeth, and not only can show you a preview before treatment starts, of how the teeth will look at the end of treatment….but also  allows the dentist to work to a high level of detail previously not possible with ‘off the shelf’ braces.

We at The Courtyard Clinic are very excited to be able to offer this level of care to our patients.

  5. How often will I need an appointment if I start orthodontic treatment?

    18th December 2009 by thecourtyardclinic

Appointments for orthodontics usually are between four and eight weeks depending on each individual case.

Once the appliance has been fitted…the appointments tend to be short ie: 20 to 30 minutes, therefore they won’t take up too much of your time.

  6. Am I too old for braces?

    18th November 2009 by thecourtyardclinic

No! Treatment can start at any age. Adults in their 50’s have had succcessful treatment.

‘Invisible’ braces are more popular with adults…these can be aligner based (such as Invisalign) or fixed metal braces put on the insides of the teeth where they don’t show.

Here at The Courtyard Clinic, we offer a variety of techniques and a free orthodontic consultation so you can see what options there are for you

Contact Alison on reception on 01932 582949 to find out more.

  7. Do I have to change my diet during my orthodontic treatment?

    17th November 2009 by thecourtyardclinic

Not really but  avoid chewing ice cubes, and eating very hard foods such as nougat and pork crackling. It is also a good idea to reduce sweet, sticky, sugary foods.

Oral hygiene does have to be good during orthodontic treatment, therefore we at The Courtyard Clinic recommend regular visits with Marie our hygienist.

  8. Will my teeth move after orthodontic treatment?

    16th November 2009 by thecourtyardclinic

Yes, unless proper retainers are fitted and worn as we advise.

Retainers can be removable or fixed in….Full advice is given on this at the start of    treatment.                                                                                                                                                                                                                         At The Courtyard Clinic our courses of treatment include retainers at no extra charge.
