Why should you have it treated by a dentist?
DIY devices are inexpensive and readily available over the counter and online. However, they have been proven to be ineffective. Devices need to be custom made and adjusted to the individual over time. A bespoke, professional Mandibular Advancement Splint is much more likely to be successful.
What device do we use?
Dr Claire Holly Wilkinson is an experienced SomnoMed anti-snoring device provider. The SomnoMed oral sleep device provides Continuous Open Airway Therapy (COAT) by moving the lower jaw slightly forward.
The procedure
- Perform a full dental assessment to ensure the device is suitable for you.
- Take a full mouth X-Ray (OPG) to ensure your teeth will provide a suitable long-term foundation for support of the device.
- Carry out sleep apnoea screening questions and contact your GP if further support is required.
- Take impressions of your mouth and further readings to set your anti-snoring device to the right position.
- After this, you will return for fit of the device and possible adjustments over time. It usually takes 3 weeks to make.
- Expect the device to start working in 2 weeks.
