Here at The Courtyard Clinic we are a ‘state of the art’ practice, always on the look out for the latest developments in dentistry. An interesting development has been released from US researchers today on national news of lasers being used to regenerate dentine (the inner part of teeth under the enamel) and could potentially be used by dentists to prevent the need for root canal.

As many of our patients will tell you we use lasers for many purposes in the practice such as reshaping the gums and minor surgery with much success. We also use cement which can regenerate the nerve if it is exposed by decay in a similar way to the laser in this study thus preventing the need for root canal. Although it is not available to dentists yet the combination of these techniques would be very interesting and our patients can rest assured that as soon as this technology is at a satisfactory standard we will bring it to the practice. It is always our aim at The Courtyard Clinic to provide our patients with the best available to make their dental experience as comfortable as possible!

  5. Discreet orthodontics for patients in Chertsey

    9th January 2014 by thecourtyardclinic

Myleene Klass has shown them to morning television viewers, Karen Millen has had them and even Kate Middleton is reported to have had them before the royal wedding. What are we talking about….. Adult lingual orthodontics.

    mk

However here at The Courtyard Clinic this is not just for celebrities; more and more adults are turning to these discreet braces to give them smiles they can really be proud of.

There has been a perception over the last 20 years that braces are for teenagers which has put many people off, lingual braces offer an option which is invisible in most social situations which for many adults is very important. The brackets are placed on the teeth on the side next to the tongue as opposed to the traditional cheek side of the teeth.

There has been a huge surge in demand for this treatment from patients in their 40s, 50s and 60s who were not offered traditional orthodontics/braces in their youth,  but are unhappy with their current smiles.

So if you are unhappy with your smile and are looking for a minimally invasive method to improve it,  call Alison on 01932 582 949 or email reception@thecourtyardclinic.com .

  6. Crowns in a day for busy patients in Surrey

    by thecourtyardclinic
     cerec
The patient in the photo above came in with a broken tooth and less than 2 hours later left with a new aesthetic cerec crown.

Here at The Courtyard Clinic we pride ourselves on offering our patients the latest state of the art treatment to provide them with the best quality of care. Cerec is a modern technology that the dentists at the practice utilise to provide patients with aesthetic and strong crowns and bridges without the need to return for 2 visits.

What are the benefits of CEREC?

There are several advantages to having treatment with CEREC over conventional, laboratory-made restorations:

Everything is carried out in a single visit – you only need to visit the dentist once – take one day away from your work or life to have the procedure – instead of the usual two or three visits.

Only one set of local anaesthetic injections
    – since the entire procedure can be carried out within the hour, you only need to have one lot of injections.

Your dentist is in complete control of the final result
    – since the crown or veneer is designed and fabricated from start to finish by your dentist, he/she has total control over how it will look and fit, whereas a crown made in a laboratory is under the control of the technician who hasn’t even seen the patient.

    No temporary restorations
    – if you have lab-made veneers, you would require temporary veneers during the wait for your new teeth. These have been known to fall off and cause problems, which is a step that is omitted with CEREC restorations.

Minimally invasive- With cerec technology we utilise adhesive dentistry to only remove what is necessary to protect your teeth. This more modern approach to dentistry allows our dentist to reduce the risk or root canal and improve the prognosis of the teeth over the patients lifetime.

If you think you may need a crown or bridge placed then contact Alison today on 01932582949 or email on reception@thecourtyardclinic.com

  8. Whiter teeth for patients at The Courtyard Clinic

    13th December 2013 by thecourtyardclinic

One of our most popular treatments at The Courtyard Clinic is Tooth whitening (also known as tooth bleaching). We are currently running a fantastic discount on tooth whitening for patients looking for whiter teeth for christmas- Tooth whitening for £199 and 20% discount off examination/hygiene.

    tw

Tooth whitening is a bleaching process that lightens discolourations in the teeth. The system uses a mild peroxide gel retained in a custom-fitted tray that is worn over your teeth for 1-2 hours a day.

    What causes tooth discolouration??

    There are many causes:

    The most common include:

    • aging
    • coffee
    • tea
    • cola
    • tobacco
    • red wine
    • trauma
    • old fillings

In general anything that can stain a white T-shirt can stain your teeth also.

Who can benefit from tooth whitening?

MOST PEOPLE can benefit from tooth whitening. However there are some cases where the treatment may be inappropriate or ineffective. Your dentist will determine if you are a viable candidate for the treatment and this is one of the reasons tooth whitening should never be provided by someone who is not a dental care professional.

    IS IT SAFE??

YES!! When carried out by a trained dental professional clinical studies indicate that whitening teeth with hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide is safe for teeth and gums. In fact if you look around The Courtyard Clinic staff, you may see that many of them have had the treatment done themselves! A new website has recently been launched advising patients on concerns for safety:

    http://www.safetoothwhitening.org/

    How long does it take?

On average 10-14 days, but the trays do not need to be worn overnight.

In cases of very dark teeth it can take longer and your dentist will advise you of this.

    Are there any side effects?

Some people temporarily get  increased sensitivity which disappears a few days after carrying out the treatment.

Here at The Courtyard Clinic we use PHILIPS ZOOM Night White tooth whitening. Please give Alison a call today on 01932582 949 or send us an email at reception@thecourtyardclinic.com

  9. Minimally invasive cosmetic dentistry at The Courtyard Clinic, Chertsey.

    27th November 2013 by thecourtyardclinic

Our newest team member Dr Simon Chard has recently returned from a 3 day meeting in London with some of the leading lights in cosmetic dentistry at the British Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (BACD) conference 2013. The conference, in it’s 10th year, is an opportunity for people from around the world to come and present the most modern techniques in improving patients smiles.

    bacd

The key trend this year was minimally invasive cosmetic dentistry, something the team at The Courtyard Clinic is very passionate about!

Minimally invasive dentistry is the philosophy that when improving patient’s smiles we remove as little of the patient’s natural tooth as possible- thus improving the prognosis of the patient’s natural teeth. Traditional cosmetic dentistry developed a less than ideal reputation in the dental world for being overly destructive of natural teeth. The new wave of modern and ethical cosmetic dentists, such as the dentists at The Courtyard Clinic, employ the latest materials, techniques and technology to be as minimal as possible.

    This includes the use of:

    • Adult orthodontics (braces)
    • Tooth whitening
    • CEREC technology
    • Modern Ceramic materials
    • Modern aesthetic white filling materials
    • Implants

At this latest conference Dr Simon, who sits on a number of committees for the BACD, enjoyed discussions on a number of these latest advances in the field and this week has brought them back to review their implementation with the team at The Courtyard Clinic.

Please contact Alison on 01932 582949 or at reception@thecourtyardclinic.com if you would like to improve your smile in a modern and minimally invasive manner.
