RE-cementing of a crown – Male –Age 5- from Harpenden
My tooth dropped out this morning and I could not concentrate or smile or talk until it was sorted. I was working in the area and David saw me as an emergency patient, as I could not get to see my own dentist. David was excellent. He talked me through what he was doing, discussed options and treated me as a usual patient.

I have been coming to The courtyard Clinic for 18 months now and think that the work that has been carried out so far has been excellent.

Hygienist – Female – Age 52 from Englefield Green
I came to see the hygienist today and I’m very pleased with the result. My mouth now feels fresh and clean. I found the hygienist to be very efficient and friendly.

Cleaning – Male – Age 37 from Chertsey
My visit was to the hygienist for a clean today. I’m very happy with my teeth now and don’t even think about them anymore. The hygienist was very good and helpful.

I’m planning to have some braces fitted. I needed to have lots of records taken to progress with my treatment. I had moulds taken, some photographs and xrays. My teeth could be improved and hopefully they will look better once my treatment has been completed. Yasmin is very nice and a good dentist.

I had my teeth cleaned. My teeth are fairly clean, but I need to spend more time on them, I do tend to rush too much. The staff here do a good job.

I had some fillings done today. I tend not to think about my teeth but I feel they are much improved. My dentist is very good and also very helpful.

I’m currently having my jaw moved forward and I’m wearing a Damon brace. At the moment my teeth are progressing very well and my jaw is on the way to success! Yasmin, my dentist is very kind and concentrated, very organised.

After years of poor dentistry I now feel that we are with the right people. I feel confident in Yasmins work, she’s brilliant.

I had a check up and a cleaning done today, also a temporary filling. My teeth are basically trouble free , reasonably presentable. My lower front teeth may need cosmetic attention. David gave first class explanations. I wonder about the wisdom of personal chat? Technically first class and efficient.

I had an impression and x-ray today. I think my teeth are big and not very straight. My dentist is instructive, helpful and productive.

Today I had a crown fitted. Mt teeth are improving every time I visit the dentist. My dentist is fantastic, understanding and gives an honest opinion for treatment and she is sympathetic to nervous patients.
Implant crown – Female – Age 60 – Sunningdale, Berkshire
I’m really pleased with the implant crown I had fitted today, it blends in very well. My dentist is very reassuring and through.

I came to the dentist to have a CT scan today because my tooth is hidden in my mouth. My teeth are nice, my dentist is great.

Today my visit to The Courtyard Clinic was for a check –up and to have a filling fitted. I think my teeth are good but are in need of some rearrangement. Yasmin is very good, efficient and nice.

Composite bonding and whitening – Female – Age 20 – Guildford
After my composite bonding and the whitening my teeth look brilliant, such an improvement – Subtle change but definitely worth it! Yasmin is great, professional and vey competent

Cerec and Clean – Female – Age 47- Bracknell
While having my Cerec treatment and a clean today, Yasmin explained everything comprehensively before and during treatment.

Orthodontics – Male – Age 9 – Morton
I had a brace fitted today. My teeth are ok and my dentist is really good.

I like what’s been done to my teeth. The dentist is very good.

I had a crown fitted today and I think my teeth are great. And my dentist is great too.

Smile makeover – Female – Age Old – Ewell, Surrey
I had four quadrants (16 teeth) restored with crowns and onlays, one implant and tooth whitening. My teeth are wonderful now! I used to be ashamed of them, not anymore. My dentist is very kind and caring- very patient with me and my phobia. Excellent Dentistry

Orthodontics – Female – Age 15 – Walton On Thames
Today I had my braces taken off; my mouth feels much better without braces on. My dentist is nice.

Hygiene – Female – Age 47 – Woking
I saw the hygienist for the first time today. She was gentle and very professional. Now I think my teeth are lovely. Marie was lovely too, very kind.

Hygiene – Female – Age 20 – Walton on Thames
I’m relatively happy with my teeth. They can be quite awkward to clean as my mouth is quite crowded. Everyone at the Clinic was very nice, welcoming and friendly.

Exam – Male – 52 – Ottershaw
I feel my teeth are in need of improvement. Today I had an initial check up, x-rays, a temporary filling and some advice. I found Yasmin to be patient, skilled, personable and informative.

I came to see Marie the hygienist today and had a thorough cleaning involving, polishing, flossing and a brushing tutorial. She did a very good and thorough job and that was one of the best cleaning jobs I have ever had done.

Over the past 18 months I have had 4 fillings, a root canal treatment and 2 crowns. I feel much better about my teeth now. I am confident that I will have less dental problems in the future. Parents beware!

This summer I have seen a number of young patients (under the age of 6) with decay in their teeth…. but they have healthy low sugar diets (very few sweets!) and motivated caring parents who do check their children have cleaned their teeth…..
The thing these children have had in common , is their habit of consuming dried raisins as a ‘snack’.
Traditionally considered ‘quite healthy’…. dried fruit (in particular raisins) can contain a lot of sugar and remain stuck in the teeth for periods of time.
I would like to advise all of our patients, but particularly parents of young children to be aware of this, and try to avoid dried fruit as a snack between meals and stick to fresh fruit or something savoury.

Thumb Sucking

Sucking the thumb is considered normal behaviour for babies and may even start in the womb. However, if it continues after the age of two or three, it can have negative effects on developing teeth and bite.

Thumb sucking has the following effects on the mouth and teeth:

An open bite in the front: The front teeth in the upper jaw and the lower jaw cannot meet.
The back teeth in the upper jaw are pushed inward towards the palate, affecting the bite.
High palate: The pressure from the thumb on the growing palate bone affects the shape of the palate.

If the habit is interrupted very early, the bite recovers and the permanent teeth often grow into a correct position without the need of orthodontic treatment.

How to stop thumb sucking?

Support and encourage your child to stop.
You could try coating your child’s thumb with a taste you know they find unappealing such as vinegar.
Use Mavala Stop. The bitter but harmless taste help your child (over 3 years) stop sucking the thumb.
Consult your dentist. A dentist can provide your child with a thumb sucking deterrant but also can advise if there is an effect on the developing teeth . If there is an adverse effect ‘orthopaedic’ orthodontic treatment may be indicated.
Be patient, children do often grow out of the habit but if you are concerned seek professional advice.

Tips to reduce enamel erosion….

Enamel erosion or wear is surprisingly common and one of the causes of sensitive teeth, these tips can help reduce enamel erosion:

Reduce or eliminate carbonated beverages
Skip the additives in tea such as sugar, lemon, and milk
Drink acidic drinks quickly and through a straw
Acidic drinks should be consumed at meals only to limit the exposure to acid on the teeth
Chew sugar-free gum to increase saliva flow in your mouth
Rinse with water to neutralize the acids, and wait an hour before brushing
If you suffer from heartburn or indigestion, acid from the stomach can be a factor so consult your doctor.
